The Ondo State House of Assembly has confirmed Erelu Taibat Oloruntoba as commissioner-designate and approved the nominations of Dr. Mann Omobayi Alli and Mr. Michael Oshodi as chairman-designate and member-designate of the state Civil Service Commission, respectively.
The approvals were given during plenary in Akure, presided over by the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, following consideration of the report of the House Committee on Selection on the nominees.
The development followed the screening of the nominees by the committee on Wednesday, after Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa forwarded their names to the assembly for consideration and approval.
Presenting the committee’s report, the Deputy Speaker and Vice Chairman of the committee, Ololade Gbegudu, said the nominees satisfactorily responded to questions during the screening and demonstrated adequate knowledge of the responsibilities attached to their proposed offices.
Gbegudu further said the nominees possessed the required academic qualifications, relevant experience and exposure, adding that they were considered fit to effectively discharge the duties of their respective positions.
Consequently, the house adopted the committee’s recommendations following a motion moved by the House Leader, Olatunji Oshati, and seconded by Sulaiman Murtala, representing Akoko South-East Constituency. Other lawmakers also supported the nominations, describing the nominees as capable of delivering on their assignments.
While congratulating the nominees, Oladiji urged them to support the Aiyedatiwa administration in its efforts to promote development across the state. Responding on behalf of the nominees, Oloruntoba thanked the assembly for the confidence reposed in them and assured lawmakers and residents that they would justify the appointments by bringing their experience to bear on improved service delivery.
Meanwhile, the lawmakers separately approved the appointment of five additional special advisers to Governor Aiyedatiwa, further expanding the governor’s team as the administration continues to implement its programmes and policies across Ondo State.
