Residents of Oda Town in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State were thrown into grief on Wednesday after a middle-aged man identified simply as Friday was found dead in an abandoned building.
The deceased, popularly known as “Koko,” was said to be an indigene of Cross River State and lived in the Emiloro area of the community with members of his family.
Sources in the area said the man was discovered hanging inside a dilapidated structure located close to the residence of his mother and siblings.
His body was later brought down from the building and laid on the floor as sympathisers and residents gathered at the scene to mourn the tragic development.
When journalists visited the community, the remains of the deceased were still lying on a mat inside the abandoned structure.
One of his friends, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed shock over the incident, saying the deceased had often advised his peers against engaging in nightlife activities. “I don’t know what could have led him to take his life,” the friend said.
Another associate of the deceased described the incident as devastating, noting that he was preparing to meet him for their daily activities before receiving news of the tragedy.
