Ondo disability community urges Aiyedatiwa to resolve agency leadership row

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Nigerian Association of the Blind in Ondo State has appealed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to intervene in an alleged leadership crisis at the Agency for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities.

In a petition dated December 30, 2025, the group said persistent unrest within the agency has left the disability community divided and frustrated.

The association recalled a meeting with the governor in September, during which assurances were given that concerns over the agency’s leadership would be addressed, but lamented that the situation remains unchanged.

It also raised concerns over the handling of funds released for the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, alleging that not all intended beneficiaries had received payment despite government approval.

While acknowledging the intervention of the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Seun Osamaye, the group said delays in disbursement continue to fuel tension among persons with disabilities.

The association further alleged that an incident at the agency nearly led to the loss of a member’s life, describing the atmosphere as unsafe and unhealthy.

It called on the governor to dissolve the board of the agency to restore order and ensure effective administration.

The group also urged the governor to approve its nominee, Adenibuyan Monday, as board chairman, saying the move would promote fairness, inclusion, and unity within the disability community.
