The Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has dismissed reports claiming that academic activities at Fiwasaye Grammar School would be suspended ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Akure on Monday.
The ministry said students and staff of the school were expected to resume for normal academic activities on May 11, 2026, as scheduled.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Akindele Ige, said the clarification became necessary following speculations surrounding the president’s planned event within the vicinity of the school.
According to him, the government had already consulted relevant security agencies to ensure adequate protection and smooth coordination of activities around the school environment.
“The public is hereby informed that students and staff of Fiwasaye Grammar School, Akure, are to report to school as scheduled for normal academic activities tomorrow,” the statement read.
The ministry added that there was no directive ordering the closure of the school and urged residents to ignore contrary claims circulating in some quarters.
“Parents, guardians, students, staff and members of the public are therefore advised to disregard any contrary information suggesting the suspension of school activities,” the statement added.
The government also assured parents and other stakeholders that sufficient security arrangements had been put in place, stressing that there was no cause for concern over the President’s visit to the area.
