Ondo govt moves to resolve Okitipupa Oil Palm plc, host communities dispute

..calls for formal negotiation

The Ondo State government has initiated moves to resolving the issues between the Okitipupa Oil Palm Plc and the host communities.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in a statement issued by Yomi Adebayo, the Technical Adviser to the Commissioner for Justice, called for formal negotiations between Ondo Oil Palm Company (OOPC) and the host communities so as to address the expressed grievances.

According to the statement, the Office of the Attorney General of Ondo State stands prepared to facilitate the essential discussions, ensuring that all stakeholders collaborate towards a constructive resolution.

” We recognize the crucial role that OKITIPUPA OIL PALM PLC has played in our economy over the years, significantly enhancing investment and enriching our local landscape.

“We are determined to ensure that all enterprises within our jurisdiction operate in accordance with legal standards while making substantial contributions to their surrounding communities. We therefore urge all parties to exercise restraint and explore every available avenue for communication and resolution before resorting to more drastic measures.

“To this end, we have specifically mandated law enforcement agencies and other relevant governmental bodies to diligently investigate the matter and work towards an amicable resolution of any issues between the management of OOPC and the host communities.

“We wish to underscore that the Ondo State Government will not tolerate any form of illegality or self-help from any party involved. We encourage all stakeholders to adhere strictly to the principles and mandates of the law as they navigate the issues at hand.

“We remain unwavering in our dedication to safeguarding the interests of local communities while fostering an environment conducive for investors to a responsible business practice.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to all stakeholders for their commitment to the welfare of the people of Ondo State”, said the state government.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing harmonious relationship between companies and their host communities.
