Ondo guber: Sanwo-Olu, south-west governors, APC leaders rally support for Aiyedatiwa

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State to unite ahead of the November 16 gubernatorial election, urging them to secure a decisive victory for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure on Sunday, Sanwo-Olu, who also chairs the South-West Governors’ Forum, emphasized the importance of solidarity within the party to ensure that Ondo remains aligned with the progressive caucus.

Sanwo-Olu’s appeal was directed especially at aggrieved members and former governorship aspirants, asking them to set aside differences and work collectively for Aiyedatiwa’s re-election. “What lies ahead is far greater than what is behind us. We must work together to secure more than 85 percent of the vote,” he said.

The meeting drew key figures from the APC, including Governors Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti) and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), represented by Ogun’s Secretary to the State Government, Talabi Olatokunbo, as well as the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and other prominent leaders.

In his address, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the strategic importance of Ondo State to the APC, stressing that the party must present a united front to maintain its hold on the state. “We are here as a family, committed to leaving no one behind. Every one of you is critical to our success in November,” he stated.

Echoing Sanwo-Olu’s sentiments, APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, urged party members, especially those who participated in the primary contest, to unite in support of Aiyedatiwa. He emphasized the need for a massive voter turnout, saying, “We expect nothing less than 90 percent in this election. Mobilize your units and ensure every vote counts.”

Governor Oyebanji added his voice to the call for unity, stressing the need to preserve the legacy of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. “We have a duty to ensure that Akeredolu’s achievements are not reversed. Coming second is not an option,” he remarked.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, in response, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from party leaders and stakeholders. He urged continued unity, noting that the upcoming election is critical to advancing the progress of Ondo State.

Former APC governorship aspirants, including Chief Olusola Oke, Mr. Wale Akinterinwa, and Princess Oladunni Odu, pledged their commitment to Aiyedatiwa’s victory, vowing to work towards ensuring that the opposition does not gain a foothold in the state.
