Ondo health commissioner appeals for calm after student demonstration in Akure

By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Awolowo Ajaka, on Monday visited the Ondo State College of Health Technology, Akure, following a student protest over the lack of basic amenities on campus.
Ajaka, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Adeniran Ikuomola, said the visit aimed to restore calm after the demonstration disrupted activities at the institution.
The commissioner met separately with the school management and the Students’ Union leaders in a bid to resolve the issues that triggered the protest.
He also conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the complaints raised by the students, promising that their concerns would receive urgent attention.
Ajaka assured the students of the state government’s commitment to improving the health sector, adding that their welfare and a conducive learning environment remain priorities of the administration.
He, however, urged the students to embrace dialogue rather than protests, stressing that meaningful engagement is the best way to achieve lasting solutions.
Security operatives were deployed to the campus to maintain peace, and academic and other activities later resumed as normal.
