Ondo PDP faction joins ADC ahead of 2027 elections

By Boye Oyeyemi –
Scores of loyalists of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede, have left the PDP for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The defectors, led by Balarabe Abiodun Akinwunmi, formally announced their move at a gathering held over the weekend in Akure.
Akinwunmi, a close associate of Jegede, said the decision followed deepening leadership crises within the PDP at both the state and national levels.
He explained that the defection was driven by conviction, not political convenience, as the group aligned with the Atiku Abubakar-backed ADC coalition.
Addressing supporters, Akinwunmi said the group would begin aggressive grassroots mobilisation across wards and polling units ahead of future elections.
He also pledged to remain close to the grassroots, assuring supporters of his commitment to their welfare and political aspirations.
Akinwunmi, who is seeking the Akure North/South Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, expressed confidence in the ADC’s capacity to provide credible leadership.
Receiving the defectors, ADC Chairman for Ijomu/Obanla Council Ward, Mukaila Ajiboye, described the move as a major boost for the party.
Ajiboye assured the new members of full integration and equal treatment, adding that the defection would strengthen the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
