By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested ten suspects over a violent attack on the Igoba community in the Akure North Local Government Area, where gunmen allegedly attempted to assassinate a traditional ruler and robbed residents.
The police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said in a statement on Saturday that the incident occurred on October 2, 2025, when hoodlums armed with guns, knives and charms invaded the community. According to him, one Mrs Ogunoye Oluomo was injured and robbed during the attack.
The assailants reportedly stormed the palace of Oba Adinlewa John of Igoba and attempted to kill him, but the monarch narrowly escaped.
“The suspects have confessed to their roles in the unrest and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” the statement said.
He noted that items recovered from them include two locally made pistols, one single-barrel gun, several live ammunition, charms, knives and machetes. The injured victim is said to be responding to treatment.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, assured residents that normalcy had been restored in the area and urged calm as efforts continue to track fleeing suspects.
He also warned criminals to steer clear of Ondo State, adding that anyone caught disturbing the peace would face the full weight of the law.
