The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man named Ayodeji Patrick, and recovered a locally made firearm during an intelligence-led operation in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The arrest, which took place on March 24, 2026, followed credible intelligence acted upon by operatives of the command along Oda Road.

The police said the suspect was apprehended during a coordinated operation aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal arms and criminal activities in the state.

Subsequently, a search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel gun, a development the command described as a major breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to enhance public safety.

As disclosed by the police, the suspect is currently in custody and has provided useful information to investigators.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives involved in the operation for their professionalism and diligence, while also expressing appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for sustained support and guidance, which he said had strengthened the command’s capacity to combat crime effectively.

Reaffirming the commands commitment to maintaining law and order, Lawl warned individuals in possession of illegal firearms to desist or face the full weight of the law, adding that efforts would be intensified to track down and prosecute offenders involved in the circulation of illegal weapons.

He further urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information, assuring that all tips would be treated with strict confidentiality.
