The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug traffickers in Owo.

The suspects were intercepted by operatives of the Tactical Intelligence Response Squad (TIRS) along Ikare Junction in Owo.

Identified as Usman Bashir, 27, and Usman Muhammad, 17, both from Kaduna State, the suspects were found in possession of 51 bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Each bag reportedly weighed about nine kilograms.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olushola, it was noted that the operation was based on credible intelligence.

Ayanlade added that the exhibits have been secured and the suspects are currently in police custody, as investigations continue to trace the wider criminal syndicate believed to be behind the supply and distribution of the illicit substances.

The Commissioner of Police, Olatokunbo Afolabi, commended the prompt action and professionalism displayed by the officers involved in the operation.

It would be recalled that Western Post earlier reported the arrest of two suspected kidnappers and the recovery of weapons by the command.
