Ondo police burst motorcycle-snatching gang, recover seven bikes

The Ondo State Police Command has dismantled an interstate motorcycle-snatching syndicate, recovering seven stolen motorcycles in the process.

Police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said in a statement that the breakthrough followed the proactive policing strategy of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal.

According to the statement, the case began on August 29, 2025, when one Boluwaji Samuel of Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, reported that his NEO NX Blue TUS Lady’s motorcycle, valued at ₦500,000, was stolen from his residence on August 20. He had purchased the motorcycle in 2022.

Olushola explained that intelligence-led investigations traced the stolen bike to two suspects, identified as Oluwafemi Benjamin and one Seyi, who were arrested in Akure. Their confessions later led operatives to Owo, where another gang member was apprehended.

“At the hideout, six more motorcycles, suspected to have been stolen at different locations within and outside Ondo State, were recovered, bringing the total to seven,” the statement read. The gang was said to have been terrorising residents and dispossessing them of their valuables.

The police called on members of the public who have lost motorcycles to come forward with proof of ownership for possible identification and recovery of their property.

Olushola assured that the Command remains committed to sustaining the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s vision of proactive and people-centred policing.
