Ondo Police faults SaharaReporters over alleged remittances to CP

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed a report by SaharaReporters alleging that compulsory financial remittances were imposed on officers under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.

WESTERN POST reports that the medium, in one of its publications, alleged that the CP “has come under fire following allegations that he has been demanding a monthly levy of ₦2 million from his subordinates.”

But in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayandale Olayinka, the Command described the publication as false, baseless, and a calculated attempt to smear its image.

It stressed that at no time did CP Lawal introduce or authorise any form of financial remittance from personnel of the Command.

The Command noted that its officers and men remain committed to the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which emphasises professionalism, integrity, and accountability in policing.

It said linking the administration of CP Lawal to such practice was an attempt to malign a leadership that has continued to prioritise discipline and transparency.

The statement also faulted SaharaReporters for linking the allegation to the death of a senior officer, CSP Nimrod Anaka, who the police said died of sudden illness.

It described the attempt to associate his name with false claims as unfair to his memory, his family, and the Force.

According to the Command, the publication was a response to its recent clampdown on criminals.
