The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ondo State has distanced itself from the crises that ensued during the just concluded primaries of political parties across the state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Ambassador Rufus Oluwatoyin Akeju, stated this on Wednesday at a press briefing, noting that the commission should not be brought into the internal crisis being experienced by the parties, most especially the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said: “We want to say it emphatically that the commission should be left out of the crisis rocking some political parties mostly the one that happened during primaries. We know it is party affairs and not that of INEC.”
Akeju said that INEC will not involve itself in the controversies that have trailed the emergence of candidates for various position.
The REC urged eligible Nigerian voters who are 18 years and above, who have not registered to come out enmass and register since there will be no shift in the closing date which is 30th June, 2022.
It would be recalled that many aspirants from the APC have complained of fraud perpetrated by party officials during the primaries, saying the process was not free and fair.
