Ondo State launches multi-sectoral plan to combat malnutrition

By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ondo State Government has unveiled new measures to tackle malnutrition, with a particular focus on children, women, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups.
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Laolu Akindolire, disclosed this on Tuesday in Akure, during the inauguration and dissemination of the Ondo State Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition (OSMPFAN).
Akindolire explained that the OSMPFAN document, covering the period from 2025 to 2029, was designed to address the challenges confronting nutrition while also serving as an advocacy and resource mobilisation tool to secure partnerships and external funding.
He credited Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to healthcare delivery for the progress recorded so far.
“Ondo State is a leading state in the implementation of the National Food System Transformation Pathway Programme, which is also geared towards achieving food sufficiency. The state has made significant strides in irrigation farming across all 18 local government areas, attracting both local and national commendations.
“This strategic food and nutrition plan is, therefore, expected to further actualise the development agenda of this administration by achieving food security and promoting healthy consumption patterns among the people,” Akindolire said.
The Administrative Secretary of the ministry, Mr. J. B. Daisi, stressed that the OSMPFAN plan is linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He added that it also aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasises agriculture, education, health, and social investment.
