Ondo inducts 500 new Amotekun operatives to boost internal security

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday reaffirmed that security remains the foundation of sustainable development, warning that no society can prosper in an atmosphere of fear or where lives and property are unsafe.

He stressed that no government can claim success if it fails in its primary responsibility of protecting its citizens.

The governor spoke at the passing-out parade of Batch 05 (BR05) of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, held at the parade ground of the Ondo State House of Assembly Arcade Complex in Akure.

Aiyedatiwa said the event brought back memories of his late predecessor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, whom he referred to as “Amotekun 001” for his pioneering role in establishing the corps.

He commended the new operatives as well-trained and disciplined individuals who volunteered to serve the state, noting that they had undergone rigorous training and were leaving as guardians of the homeland and custodians of public trust.

The governor explained that his administration’s sustained investment in Amotekun is driven by strategic foresight, adding that BR05 represents not just an increase in manpower but an enhancement of operational capacity across forests, farms, highways and communities.

He said the recruits received comprehensive training in physical conditioning, tactical operations, intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, human rights, rules of engagement and ethical conduct rooted in Omoluabi values. He urged them to be disciplined, professional and guided by the rule of law at all times.

Aiyedatiwa assured the corps of continued government support through improved logistics, equipment, intelligence coordination and training, noting that residents across the state are counting on their dedication and integrity.

In his remarks, the Commander of the agency, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, cautioned the operatives to act strictly within the law, stressing that Amotekun was created to complement existing security agencies in tackling challenges such as banditry, kidnapping and communal conflicts.

He warned against indiscipline or abuse of power and commended the governor for improving the welfare and operational capacity of the corps.
