Ondo to install meters for 50,000 electricity consumers

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Ondo State Government has announced plans to roll out 50,000 prepaid meters across the state under the first phase of its O’Datiwa Mass Metering Scheme.

Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr) Johnson Alabi, made this known. He explained that the initiative aims to ensure fair and transparent electricity billing while addressing the challenges of estimated charges.

He said the exercise, which will be implemented by the Ondo State Power Company (OSPC), will begin with a pilot phase this month before full-scale deployment in November 2025.

“With this programme, every citizen and business will have access to prepaid meters that guarantee fairness, transparency, and efficiency,” the Commissioner said.

Alabi added that OSPC, in partnership with accredited Meter Asset Providers (MAPs), will supervise the installation to maintain quality and smooth operation.

He explained that the project would empower electricity consumers, enhance revenue generation, and restore investors’ confidence in the power sector.

The Commissioner reaffirmed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s determination to strengthen power supply across Ondo State, urging residents to embrace the metering initiative as a crucial step toward lasting energy reforms and improved service delivery.
