One dies, several injured as granite laden truck loses control in Osun

A commercial motorcyclist, identified as Mukaila Okedowo, was on Monday crushed to death by a granite laden truck which lost control in Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State.

The accident, it was gathered, occurred around 1:35pm when the granite-laden truck coming from Obaagun and heading to Osogbo lost control around Oja-Oba market, in front of the Akinrun of Ikirun palace. 

An eyewitness, Wahab Taofeeq, said the truck crushed motorcyclists who packed in front of the palace, adding that one of them died on the spot while many others sustained injuries.

Taofeeq recalled that, similar incident had happened twice within this year when another granite laden truck crushed a motorcyclist in the same circumstances.

Speaking on the incident, Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Osun State command, Kehinde Adeleke, said that the remains of the deceased have been evacuated and deposited in the mortuary.

Adeleke said: “Today 3rd of April, 2023 around 1335hrs, a truck loaded with granite had a brake failure at Oja-Oba in Ikirun claimed one life (Mr Mukaila Okedowo) an Okada rider. 

“Also many people sustained various degree of injuries while many cars were affected.

“Operatives of NSCDC, NPF and FRSC were deployed to evacuate the remains of the dead to the mortuary, victims to the nearby hospital for prompt treatment also to maintain law and order.”
