One dies as truck crushes car in Ketu

Tragedy struck on Friday, as a 40-foot Mack truck toppled onto a Nissan car (ABJ 692 BG), claiming the life of a woman at the car’s rear, with the driver escaping unharmed, aided by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials.

The incident had occured near a gas station of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) inward Estate, Alapere, Lagos.

Confirming the incident, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA revealed that the driver of the Mack articulated truck alongside his assistant escaped immediately the accident occurred.

Initial findings indicate that the driver of the fully loaded 40-ft Mack articulated truck lost control due to brake failure, causing it to collide with a moving Nissan car near NNPC in Alapere, Ogudu along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

LASTMA’s Alabi Olukayode (Zone 2, Ogudu/Alapere) stated that the agency had transferred the deceased woman’s body to officers from Alapere Police Station.

He added that passers-by, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit, Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Police were involved in the rescue operations.

Also present at the accident scene were LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, Director of Traffic Incidents, Event Monitoring, Enforcement, and Compliance, Mr. Hakeem Adeosun, along with the LASTMA rescue team.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, cautioned the public, especially truck drivers, against speeding and emphasized the importance of thoroughly checking their vehicles, including the braking system, before traveling within or outside the state.
