One killed, two injured in Ondo multiple vehicle crash

A fatal road accident on the Lagos–Benin Expressway in Ondo State have claimed the life of a woman and left two others seriously injured.
The incident, which occurred yesterday involved a petrol-laden tanker that reportedly rammed into a lorry loaded with logs of wood, which triggered collision that threw the busy highway into disarray.
Among the vehicles affected were a MAN Diesel truck without a registration number, a Toyota Camry with registration number RSH 367 CE, another unregistered truck, a towing vehicle Toyota Jeep marked CE 420 AAA, and an unregistered motorcycle.
The crash caused a severe traffic gridlock, leaving travellers stranded for hours and disrupting commercial activities along the route.
Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr Samuel Ibitoye, who confirmed the incident, blamed the crash on speeding.
“Six people were involved, four male adults and two female adults. Two were injured, a man and a woman, while a woman died on the spot,” he said.
According to him, the injured victims were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment, while the body of the deceased had been deposited in the morgue.
Ibitoye urged motorists to exercise caution and remain focused while driving to prevent avoidable deaths and destruction of property on the highways.
