Ooni of Ife, HRM Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR (Ojaja II), has joined forces with UK-based businessman Dozy Mmobuosi to launch the Equity Health Group, aiming to reduce the reliance on foreign medical tourism.
“To the glory of God, I co-own the company with a young visionary entrepreneur, Dozy Mmobuosi, who shares a clear vision of reducing the black race’s dependence on Western medicine. We combined efforts to create a world-class medical institution and diagnostic center,” Ooni revealed in a brief chat.
The Equity Health Group, a pioneering healthcare conglomerate, opened its doors to the public on Monday, July 1, 2024, according to WESTERN POST.
The official inauguration is scheduled for July 15-16, 2024, in Lagos State.
Explaining the motivation behind the initiative, the Ooni said, “The last pandemic highlighted the untapped medical potential within the black community, especially here on the throne of Oduduwa. Our local herbs and traditional medicines helped us overcome major challenges when international travel for medical care was impossible.”
He added, “I assembled a team of medical scholars and experts in ancient herbal and alternative medicine. Their research led to the discovery of potent solutions that helped us combat and defeat the pandemic. This progress was made possible through collaboration with NAFDAC, Afe Babalola University, NIPRID, and leading medical research institutions in the country.”
The Ooni further announced that the Equity Health Group comprises three subsidiaries:
Equity Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre: A comprehensive facility offering advanced medical technology and personalized care, currently located in Lagos with plans for expansion.
Equity Pharmaceuticals: A company leveraging innovative technology to provide quality pharmaceutical products and services.
Equity Vaccine Laboratories: Focused on the research and development of vaccines to address global health challenges and ensure a safer future for all.
The launch of Equity Health Group marks a significant step towards improving healthcare infrastructure and reducing medical tourism in Nigeria and beyond.
