OPHK commander hails troops, assesses frontline readiness in North-East

The leadership of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has concluded a three-day operational assessment of Sector 2, aimed at boosting morale, evaluating combat readiness, and reinforcing administrative support for troops on the frontlines.
The Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsam Abubakar, led the visit from July 29 to 31, 2025, covering key military locations including Headquarters Sector 2 Damaturu, 233 Battalion Damaturu, 159 Battalion Geidam, and Forward Operating Bases at Bukharti, Kanama, Babbangida, and Kukurta.
Addressing troops at various formations, General Abubakar relayed commendations from the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs, appreciating their sacrifices and efforts in counterinsurgency operations across the North-East. He reaffirmed that the welfare and effective administration of personnel remain top priorities for the Military High Command.

He urged troops to sustain their aggressive posture and maintain operational discipline, assuring them that outstanding performance would be rewarded under the welfare initiatives of the Nigerian Army. He also reminded personnel to adhere strictly to the Armed Forces’ social media policy and utilize official channels for expressing concerns.
The Theatre Commander explained that the visit was part of routine assessment efforts to interact directly with soldiers, inspect their living conditions, and resolve immediate operational and welfare challenges.
As part of the tour, General Abubakar commissioned newly completed and renovated projects, including the Sector 2 Main Repair Group Vehicle Bay. He also visited Army Logistics Base 3, the Level II Field Hospital in Damaturu, and inspected combat enablers and other military infrastructure.
A notable moment during the visit was the decoration of Inspector MD Yusuf, who was promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent II of Police. The tour also featured briefings, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs.
Accompanying the Theatre Commander were Acting Commander Sector 2 OPHK, Brigadier General Beyedi Martins, the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, other component commanders, and senior officers from Headquarters Theatre Command.
