Opposition coalition is effort to rebuild Nigeria — Atiku Abubakar

By Kunle Sanni –

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described the ongoing plan to form a grand opposition coalition as a deliberate and serious effort to recover and rebuild Nigeria, assuring citizens that the initiative goes beyond political rhetoric.

Atiku made this known while receiving a delegation of Kannywood figures and North West opinion leaders led by Aslam Aliyu, a prominent Zamfara politician and convener of the PAA 2027 New Media & Digital Communications Forum — a coalition of digital media stakeholders, entertainers, and regional influencers.

Addressing the delegation, Atiku confirmed that the coalition of opposition political forces would soon be formally unveiled, with a clear objective to align with the aspirations of Nigerians amid growing national challenges.

“The opposition coalition being put together is not a joke. It is a deliberate effort to recover and rebuild Nigeria in line with the people’s expectations,” he said.

The delegation told Atiku they were already mobilising digital media and grassroots structures in the North West in support of the coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. They said their renewed political engagement stems from lessons learned in 2023 and the need to bridge voter education and information gaps.

Some members of the group, who admitted to supporting the Tinubu-led APC during the last election, expressed regret, describing the current leadership as disappointing. They pledged full support for the opposition coalition’s mission to provide credible alternatives.

Atiku assured the delegation that the 2027 elections would not be “business as usual,” urging them to continue sensitising the public on the importance of unity and collective action to rescue the country.

“I am aware of the pervasive insecurity and other daily challenges our citizens face. This coalition has both the individual and collective capacity to tackle them head-on,” he added.
