Organisers release schedule for 3rd edition of CAA African U-18/U-20 Athletics Championship

Organisers of the 3rd edition of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) African U-18/U-20 Athletics Championship have released the official schedule for the event, set to take place from July 16 to 20 at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The five-day competition will bring together top youth athletes from across Africa, competing in a wide range of track and field events. It aims to spotlight rising talents while fostering unity and excellence in African athletics.

Day 1 will kick off with U-18 events, including the 100m heats, 1500m final, high jump final, and triple jump final. Other events lined up include the 400m, 3,000m, and 10,000m races across categories.

On Day 2, the morning session will feature the 110m hurdles heats, long jump qualifications, and 400m finals for both age groups. In the afternoon, the 100m and 1500m finals, 400m semi-finals, and women’s discus final will take centre stage.

Day 3 will include the 400m finals for U-18 boys and girls, along with pole vault and hammer throw contests. The afternoon session will host the U-18 100m hurdles final, javelin throw, U-20 high jump final, U-20 men’s 400m final, and 4x100m relay heats.

The penultimate day begins with the 200m and 800m heats, while the afternoon session will see the 200m semi-finals, the 5,000m final, and the U-20 4x100m relay finals, alongside various field events.

The final day will feature field events such as discus, javelin, and long jump in the morning. The afternoon session will be headlined by the 200m and 800m finals, U-20 men’s long jump final, and 4x400m relay finals, followed by the closing ceremony and medal presentations.

The championship is organised by the CAA in collaboration with the National Sports Commission, Ogun State Government, and sponsors including the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Bank of Industry (BOI), and LEDCO Limited. Over 40 countries are expected to participate in what promises to be a landmark event for youth athletics in Africa.
