The Osun State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of AIG Wale Abass (rtd) as the chairman of Amotekun Corps and Dr. Omoyele Isaac as the commander of the corps.

The appointees were earlier screened by the legislators during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker of the House, Adewale Egbedun, at the House of Assembly Complex, Osogbo.

The screening process allowed the House to assess the qualifications and suitability of Abass and Omoyele for their respective roles.

The duo were described as seasoned and experienced security personnel who have served the nation in various capacities with proven integrity.

In his remarks, the Speaker urged them to foster strong working relationships with other security agencies with the goal of making Osun State a safer place.

Responding, the new Amotekun chairman pledged to work closely with all stakeholders in the state to combat crime and ensure the security of lives and property.

The confirmations followed the nomination of Abass and Omoyele by the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on July 5, 2024.

The Governor had earlier forwarded the names to the House of Assembly for the necessary legislative approval.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Local Government Amendment Bill No. 1 has passed its final reading.

The Speaker said the clean copy of the bill would be forwarded to the Governor for executive assent.
