Oshiomhole knocks Atiku, says ex-VP lacks capacity to fix Nigeria
The senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying he lacks the capacity to fix Nigeria.
Speaking on Monday as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the former Edo State governor mocked Atiku, arguing that the former vice-president’s prolonged struggle to stabilise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) undermines his claim that he can reposition the country.
Oshiomhole, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said Atiku had failed to demonstrate the leadership needed to strengthen the PDP, despite his long-standing influence within the party.
“If Atiku, as a former vice-president under the PDP, could not fix the PDP, could not reconstruct it, and could not provide leadership despite the influence he had built, how can he claim he can fix Nigeria?” Oshiomhole asked.
He also referenced Atiku’s past involvement with the APC, saying the former vice-president only defected from the ruling party after failing to secure its presidential ticket.
“He was once a member of the APC. He left because he lost the party’s presidential ticket. He returned to the PDP—he’s so much in love with the PDP, at least for the purpose of contesting elections. He could not build the PDP. So, if Atiku can’t build the party that made him vice-president, he certainly can’t fix Nigeria,” he said.
Atiku joined the ADC four months after resigning from the PDP, citing internal crises within the opposition party.
During the interview, Oshiomhole also criticised former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of poor judgment and misplaced priorities during his time in office.
