Osimhen goal lifts Galatasaray over Ndidi’s Besiktas

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen earned bragging rights over compatriot Wilfred Ndidi in a Super Eagles derby in the Turkish Süper Lig on Saturday.

Osimhen scored the only goal of the match as league leaders Galatasaray secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Besiktas in the Istanbul Derby at the Tupras Stadyumu.

The 27-year-old forward has now recorded 11 goals and four assists in the Turkish Süper Lig this season. He has taken his total goal contributions for the campaign to 22, having also scored seven goals in the Champions League.

Osimhen has now scored in three consecutive games, following his goal against Juventus in the Champions League and another against Alanyaspor in Galatasaray’s previous Süper Lig outing.

In the Round 25 clash, it took the Nigerian just six minutes before half-time to put the visitors ahead. Leroy Sané delivered a precise lofted pass into the box, which Osimhen met with a powerful header, beating his marker and sending the ball into the right side of the net.

Seventeen minutes into the second half, a Besiktas player was sent off following a reckless tackle, reducing the defending champions to ten men.

Despite being a man down, Besiktas could not find an equaliser, and Galatasaray held on to their slim lead to secure all three points.

The win gives Galatasaray momentum ahead of their upcoming Champions League clash with Liverpool on Tuesday.
