Osimhen plays down Morocco’s home advantage ahead of AFCON semi-final

Victor Osimhen has brushed aside concerns over Morocco’s home advantage, insisting there is no pressure on the Super Eagles ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash.

Nigeria will take on tournament hosts Morocco on Wednesday night for a place in the final of the 2025 AFCON. The encounter is scheduled to kick off at 9 pm Nigerian time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, which is expected to be filled largely with Moroccan supporters.

Speaking ahead of the match, Osimhen acknowledged the backing Morocco will enjoy from their fans but said the Nigerian squad is unfazed, noting that many players are accustomed to performing in intimidating atmospheres.

The Napoli striker said the Super Eagles are focused solely on their own performance rather than the opposition, adding that the team has grown in confidence following their recent displays in the tournament.

According to Osimhen, Nigeria have already proven their credentials against strong opponents and have earned a reputation as one of the most formidable sides at the competition.

He noted that while Morocco boast a strong squad and the support of their home crowd, the Super Eagles have players who regularly feature in matches attended by 80,000 to 90,000 fans, making the occasion less daunting.

Osimhen added that the team will approach the semi-final with full commitment, admitting it will be a difficult contest but expressing confidence in Nigeria’s chances of progressing.

The forward has scored four goals so far at the tournament, placing him among the leading scorers. He is also two goals away from matching the Super Eagles’ all-time AFCON scoring record held by the late Rashidi Yekini.
