The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a 1-1 draw against Benin Republic on Thursday night, with Victor Osimhen delivering the crucial equalizer. The result not only ensured Nigeria’s unbeaten run under coach Augustine Eguavoen but also solidified their position as Group D winners in the 2025 AFCON qualifying series.
Having already booked their ticket to the finals before kick-off, courtesy of Libya’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda earlier in the day, the Eagles entered the match with little at stake.
Nigeria now boasts an unassailable 11 points from five matches, four points ahead of second-placed Benin. They are set to host Rwanda in Uyo on Monday to conclude their qualifying campaign.
Dikko Praises Eagles’ Performance
Congratulatory messages have been pouring in since the Super Eagles’ qualification for AFCON 2025 with two games to spare. National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Shehu Dikko commended the team for their impressive performance and unwavering determination.
Dikko emphasized that securing qualification with matches to spare highlights the players’ hard work, commitment, and immense talent. He expressed confidence in the team’s readiness to compete in Morocco.
