Osinachi’s death: I have learnt not to practice mindless religion, says Lara George

Nigerian gospel singer, Lara George has said she has learnt not practice “mindless” religion anymore following the death of Osinachi Nwachukwu through reported domestic violence.
While reacting to the death of Osinachi, the famous Igbo gospel singer, the ‘Ijoba Orun’ crooner said that the controversies trailing the death of her fellow gospel musician left her sad.
Nwachukwu, who was popular for her collaborative hit track ‘Ekwueme’, died at an Abuja hospital on Friday where she was being treated for an ailment.
Edwin Alex, another gospel musician, had claimed Osinachi died of throat cancer.
But some social media users alleged that her death was due to domestic violence.
In a post via her Instagram page on Saturday, George lamented the prevalence of abuse in marriages and other aspects of life.
The musician said people should quit hostile marriage or work place when they notice abuse regardless of societal perception.
George also said while she still believes in God, “no more mindless religion for me”.
“Abuse does not only happen sometimes in marriages. It could also happen at work, in church or in any setting really. I’ll say it again…. It happens in church too. When you smell abuse, err on the side of caution and walk away!” she wrote.
“The letter kills. The spirit gives life. No more mindless religion for me. Don’t get me wrong. I still believe in God. I just don’t do religion anymore. This is one of the reasons why.”
Frank Edwards, another gospel singer, had earlier claimed that Nwachukwu’s death was caused by an “unreasonable human”.
