OSOPADEC denies EFCC probe of chairman

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) has denied reports that its chairman, Prince Olabiyi Poroye, is under financial investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Akure, Poroye described such reports as misleading, clarifying that the EFCC’s invitation had nothing to do with him personally but with his new office as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of OSOPADEC.

“Barely a week after assuming duties, one of the administrative burdens that came before me was a long-standing investigation into petitions covering the period from 2018 till date, years before I was sworn in,” he said.

He explained that the investigation had been ongoing before his appointment and that necessary responses had already been provided to the anti-graft agency.

Quoting the Bible, the statement stressed: “It is therefore mischievous and misleading to attempt to link the current chairman to matters that predate his tenure.”

The statement further noted that since assuming office, Poroye has been confronted with numerous challenges requiring immediate attention and restructuring for OSOPADEC to effectively deliver on its mandate.

It added that the chairman and his team remain committed to implementing the amended OSOPADEC laws, which serve as the foundation of the commission’s operations, anchored on proper bureaucratic principles.
