Osun 2022: Court affirms Ademola Adeleke as PDP candidate

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo

A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, on Wednesday dismissed the suit filed by Prince Dotun Babayemi, seeking to be declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the July 16th governorship election in Osun State.

The court affirmed that Senator Ademola Adeleke is the validly elected PDP candidate for the poll.

In his judgement which took over 1 hour, 30 minutes, Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel, said that the primary election conducted at the WOCDIF Centre, Osogbo, on the 8th of March, 2022, which produced Babayemi was null and void.

The judge who said that Babayemi did not participate in the PDP primary election, held that the court could not pick candidates for any political party.

He further said that it was an internal party issue and therefore the matter was dismissed.

It would be recalled that the Wale Ojo faction of the PDP produced Babayemi at a parallel primary held at the WOCDIF Centre, Osogbo, while Senator Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke emerged the winner of another primary held at the Osogbo City Stadium, supervised by the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
