Osun 2026: Ogunbiyi collapses structure for APC candidate Oyebamiji

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

Former governorship aspirant Akin Ogunbiyi has formally collapsed his political structure in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, as the party intensifies mobilisation ahead of the August 8, 2026, election.

Ogunbiyi, who is the Chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, made the declaration on Saturday during a brief meeting with members and leaders of his campaign organisation in Osogbo, where he also announced his intention to contest the Osun West Senatorial seat on the APC platform.

The APC chieftain was among the eight contenders for the APC governorship ticket, which Oyebamiji later clinched through a consensus arrangement.

The Ile-Ogbo-born politician, who commended his supporters for their steadfastness, said his personal ambition to govern the state had become secondary following the emergence of the party’s candidate, stressing that all aspirants had agreed to close ranks and work collectively for the APC.

Expressing confidence in the APC candidate’s chances, Ogunbiyi said he was optimistic that Oyebamiji would win the August 8, 2026, poll.

The former aspirant further revealed that party leaders had assured him of the Osun West Senatorial ticket, a promise he said he had no reason to doubt.

“Our leaders have individually and collectively assured me that I will get the senatorial ticket. I don’t have any reason to doubt them. So I’m putting on record to my supporters that we have not lost anything. The most important thing is for Bola Oyebamiji to emerge as the elected governor. If that happens, by the grace of God, I, Akin Ogunbiyi, from Iwo Federal Constituency, with the special grace of God and the support of our leaders, will emerge as the senator of the West,” he said.

Subsequently, he officially disbanded his political structure, urging members to work tirelessly for Oyebamiji’s emergence as governor of Osun State.
