Osun APC directs reinstated council chairmen, councillors to resume Monday

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has urged its reinstated local government chairmen and councillors to ignore fake reports circulating on social media that they should not resume work on Monday.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, the party clarified that no such directive had been issued, describing the misinformation as the work of political detractors.

“We want to make it abundantly clear that the reinstated APC local government chairmen and councillors should resume at their respective council areas to continue serving the people at the grassroots,” Olabisi stated.

He emphasized that the party upholds the rule of law, citing the February 10, 2025, Court of Appeal judgment in Akure, Ondo State, as the legal basis for their reinstatement.

Expressing concerns about potential violence, the APC alleged that certain elements, emboldened by the state government, might attempt to disrupt local government activities. The party, therefore, called on the State Commissioner of Police, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to remain vigilant and ensure peace across the state.

“We are aware that some disgruntled individuals, backed by the lawless government in Osun, are plotting to invade local government offices. We urge security agencies to be on high alert to prevent any breakdown of law and order,” the statement read.

Olabisi also appealed to parents and guardians to discourage their children from being used as political thugs.

“There are no vacancies for elected positions at the local government level in Osun State. A word is enough for the wise,” he concluded.
