Osun APC dismisses Adeleke’s election rigging allegations

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday dismissed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s claims that the party was plotting to rig the August 15, 2026 governorship election, insisting its candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, would win without resorting to electoral malpractice.

The party, in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, also denied allegations that it was inducing voters to surrender their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) or compromising the voters’ register, describing the claims as baseless.

The APC was reacting to allegations by Governor Adeleke, contained in a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, that the opposition party was purchasing PVCs and collecting voters’ card PINs ahead of the governorship election.

According to the APC, the allegations reflected the governor’s fear of losing the election, maintaining that its candidate had no reason to rely on electoral malpractice to secure victory.

“The allegation by the incumbent governor that we are making efforts to rig the forthcoming August 15, 2026 governorship election… was borne out of fear of his imminent loss in the election. Our governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), does not need to rig the election to emerge victorious,” Olabisi said.

The party said its candidate had continued to campaign across the state, adding that hard work and popular support, rather than manipulation, would determine the outcome of the poll.

Olabisi urged Governor Adeleke to stop making what he described as frivolous and fabricated allegations against the APC, its candidate and party leaders, insisting the claims would not give the governor any electoral advantage.

He added that the people of Osun were ready for a change in leadership and would make their choice at the governorship election.
