Osun at 34: Adeleke urges political actors to respect people’s rights

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged political actors in the state to respect the rights and wishes of the people, stressing that governance must remain centred on public welfare.

Speaking at the 34th anniversary celebration of Osun State, held at Adolak Event Hall, Osogbo, Adeleke said it was “anti-God” for any politician to deliberately inflict hardship on the public.

He described Osun as a collective heritage, declaring that no political consideration should justify actions that punish voters or undermine citizens’ rights.

“We must never play politics with the welfare of the people. Osun is our common state. It is not politics to wilfully punish voters and the public. We have a sacred duty to create red lines in politicking,” the governor said.

Adeleke restated his administration’s commitment to the people, assuring that their interests would never be compromised under his leadership.

“I reassure our people that we remain committed to their welfare. We will not trade the people’s interest for anything. I also restate my vow to at all times act only in the best interest of the good people of Osun,” he added.

Also speaking, a former governor of the state and chairman of the anniversary celebration, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, appealed to President Bola Tinubu to authorize the immediate release of the withheld local government allocations.

Oyinlola, represented by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, described the state as Tinubu’s ancestral home, emphasizing that his intervention would accelerate grassroots development.
