Osun communal clash: Oyetola seeks urgent intervention to restore peace

Former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to take urgent action to reconcile the warring communities of Ifon-Osun and Ilobu in Osun State.
Oyetola stressed the importance of dialogue and negotiation in resolving the crisis, warning that communal clashes only result in destruction and loss of lives.
In a statement released by his media office, he urged the people of Ilobu and Ifon-Osun to put an end to the ongoing conflict, which has led to loss of lives, destruction of property, injuries, and the displacement of families.
Expressing deep concern over the renewed hostility, the former governor sympathized with the families of those who lost their lives and commiserated with individuals who suffered property losses.
Oyetola noted that in the past, crises were often deescalated through traditional rulers, questioning why the current conflict had been allowed to escalate.
“The two communities must put an end to this conflict permanently, set aside their differences, and continue to live together as brothers and sisters. They should embrace unity, recognizing the benefits of their diversity regardless of borders and boundaries,” he said.
“No matter the issue at stake, it is not worth the life of any Osun citizen. I, therefore, appeal to all parties to allow peace to reign immediately.”
He called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and stakeholders to intervene decisively to prevent further bloodshed and destruction.
