Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the immediate relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed on the warring communities of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun to 17 hours.
The curfew, now set from 2 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily, will take effect from Friday, March 28, 2025, until further notice.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor said the decision was made to alleviate the suffering of residents and allow them to attend to their immediate needs.
While commending the cessation of hostilities, Adeleke expressed dissatisfaction over reports of another killing, for which the police have made an arrest. He warned that “any individual or group found instigating violence will face the full consequences of the law.“
The governor also tasked the joint security task force with maintaining 24-hour surveillance to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
Additionally, he directed the state emergency agency to intensify support services for displaced persons, as previously instructed.
