Osun: CSO slams ex-Speaker over ‘caretaker governor’ remark, urges probe

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Good Governance (CCSOGG) in Osun State has strongly condemned former Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, for describing Governor Ademola Adeleke as a “caretaker governor.”
In a statement on Monday signed by its Secretary-General, Comrade Olalekan Johnson, CCSOGG labeled the remark as “treasonable, reckless, and inflammatory,” warning it poses a threat to democratic stability.
The coalition accused Owoeye of trying to incite public disaffection and undermine democratic institutions, attributing his outburst to the “trauma of electoral defeat and political irrelevance.”
It stressed that Governor Adeleke remains the duly elected and widely supported leader of Osun State, citing his “visible, people-oriented, and unprecedented achievements,” including developments in Owoeye’s own hometown.
“The Adeleke administration has brought radical progress across Osun, including in Mr. Owoeye’s community, which had long suffered neglect,” the coalition noted.
CCSOGG called on security agencies to summon Owoeye for questioning and urged him to publicly retract his statement.
“Treasonable utterances must not be tolerated in our democratic space. Nigeria’s stability must be protected from such dangerous rhetoric,” the statement read.
The group reaffirmed its support for Governor Adeleke’s administration and pledged to remain vigilant in safeguarding the nation’s democracy.
