Osun Education Summit: Adeleke receives report from committee, promises to revamp sector

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has bemoaned the bad state of education in the state, hence the need for urgent attention.

Adeleke stated this in his office, while receiving the report on the 3-day Education Summit from the committee, targeted at repositioning education in the state.

The governor lamented the situation where students learn under leaking roof, stressing that he will make sure all dilapidated buildings are rebuilt for students to learn in a conducive environment.

Adeleke promised to study the report meticulously and implement the recommendations therein in order to resuscitate the education from the state of comatose.

The state helmsman, who expressed happiness about the success of the summit, commended the committee members for their sacrifices and selfless service in ensuring the success of the event, noting that they delivered on their mandate.

He assured that his administration will do everything possible to reposition education and make students in the public schools compete favourably with those in the private schools.

The governor also decried the rate at which children of school age are used for street hawking, promising to put a stop to it.

He equally noted that his administration will revamp every other sectors such as health and tourism, among others in the state.

While promising that government will complete all abandoned projects in no distant time, Adeleke appealed to his cabinet members to make sacrifice for the state instead of waiting for what the state will offer them, emphasising that history will never forget them.

Earlier, while presenting the report to the Governor, Chairman of the committee, Professor Oyesoji Aremu, noted that the 16- member committee worked assiduously to get it right in revamping education sector in Osun.

He said the people of the state, both within and outside, showed interest in the summit, saying, the committee received 92 memorandum, 2,149 responses.

Aremu also disclosed that 52 discussants were present and contributed greatly to the success of the summit.

He lamented that research showed that the last time Osun had the best result in WAEC was in 2018 when the state took the seventh position in the federation and ever since then, things have gone bad.

The committee chairman also stated that report, according to UNICEF, revealed that Osun is leading in the South West with out of school children which, he observed, called for quick attention of government.
