Osun: Four friends arraigned for assault, property damage at beer parlor

Four friends were arraigned on Monday before an Osun State Magistrate Court in Osogbo for allegedly assaulting a customer, stealing a gold wristwatch, and causing property damage at a beer parlor.
The accused—Michael Abayomi (26), Abdulgarfa Opeyemi (26), Opadotun Taiwo (26), and Azeez Abiodun (26)—were charged with five counts, including conspiracy, assault, malicious damage, breach of peace, and theft. The incident occurred on August 3, 2024, around 9 PM at the Iyana Camp area of Osogbo.
According to the Police Prosecutor, ASP Jacob Akintunde, the defendants allegedly engaged in a fight with one Nurudeen Gazali, resulting in injuries to Gazali’s head and right hand. They were also accused of damaging four chairs, four crates of beer, and glass plates, collectively valued at N46,000, belonging to Owonikoko Ganiyat. Additionally, the defendants were charged with stealing a gold wristwatch worth N160,000 from one Habbib Abiodun.
The offenses are in violation of sections 516, 355, 451, 249(D), and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
All defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Defense counsel Olatunbosun Oladipupo requested bail for the accused, assuring the court that they would not flee if granted bail.
Presiding Magistrate Dr. Olusegun Ayilara granted bail to each defendant in the sum of N250,000, with one surety in like sum. The case was adjourned until September 9, 2024, for hearing.
