Osun goddess favours Tinubu’s re-election, says Ataoja of Osogbo

…as monarch seeks release of withheld LG funds
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, has declared that the Osun goddess has “adopted” President Bola Tinubu and will deliver Osun State for him in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the grand finale of the 2025 Osun-Osogbo Festival at the sacred grove, the monarch assured the President that there was no cause for concern over the state’s political direction. “During the 16-eyed-lanterned event, I said the Osun goddess has adopted Tinubu and will deliver Osun State in 2027. There is no need to be afraid,” he stated.
Oba Olanipekun also called on the President to intervene in the lingering issue of withheld local government allocations for Osun State. He urged Tinubu to prevail on those responsible to release the funds without further delay.
The monarch suggested that traditional rulers in Osun should hold a collective meeting and visit the President in Abuja to present their concerns directly. He said he had been approached by some royal fathers on the matter but was waiting for the leadership of the Traditional Council to summon a meeting before taking action.
“Those of you close to the President and advising him should tell him to prevail on those holding Osun LG allocations to release them for the state. When it is time for elections, call on me and I will deliver for you,” he said.
He emphasised that as traditional rulers, they are the fathers of elected office holders, including the Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Deputy Governor, and Chief of Staff. According to him, unity among traditional leaders is key to ensuring the state is not sidelined.
Oba Olanipekun stressed that the collective strength of the traditional institution could be used to address pressing state issues in Abuja. “If we get there, I know what to say because Osun cannot be relegated to the background,” he added.
The festival, a UNESCO-recognised cultural heritage event, attracted dignitaries, tourists, and devotees from across Nigeria and beyond, reinforcing its position as a significant cultural and spiritual celebration in the state.
