Osun government gave me landcruiser, not you – Oyinlola fires back at Adeleke

Former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola has rejected Governor Ademola Adeleke’s claim that he demanded and received a vehicle in exchange for endorsing the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Oyinlola described the allegation as false, insisting that the vehicle was provided to him by the Osun State Government as part of benefits guaranteed to former governors under state law.

The former governor made the clarification in an interview with Channels Television while responding to Adeleke’s claim that he had given him a vehicle.

“That is far from the truth and it is a bad development that a governor will continue to tell lies,” Oyinlola said.

He explained that the Osun State House of Assembly had enacted legislation providing certain benefits to former governors, including the replacement of their official vehicles every four years.

According to him, the vehicle he received was therefore a statutory entitlement and not a personal gift from Adeleke.

“It wasn’t Ademola that gave me vehicle. It was the Osun State Government, it is a law of the state enacted by the House of Assembly,” he said.

Oyinlola, who left office about 16 years ago, said the provision meant that he was entitled to vehicles that should have been supplied or replaced over the intervening years.

“I’ve been out of Osun State government since the last 16 years. If you aggregate it, it means the state is still having to give up three vehicles,” he said.
