Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved the promotion of Prof. Chinwe Obuaku-Igwe to the role of Director-General and Special Envoy to the Governor on Climate Change and Renewable Energy.
A statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, noted that the appointment acknowledges Adeleke’s appreciation of Obuaku-Igwe’s efforts in developing a climate governance framework and advancing renewable energy initiatives within the state.
Adeleke highlighted that over recent years, Obuaku-Igwe has moved beyond advisory duties to establish a comprehensive climate governance framework in Osun State.
The statement further explained that her initiatives have positioned Osun State as a pioneer in Nigeria’s green economy, boosting sectoral GDP and creating more than 2,500 jobs through projects in clean energy, recycling, and sustainable mobility.
In her capacity as Director-General and Special Envoy, she will report directly to the Governor with the mandate to foster high-level partnerships with multilateral agencies, investors, and global climate networks; oversee the implementation of Osun’s Climate Action Plan and renewable energy transition; and maintain the state’s leadership in climate-smart governance.
The government emphasized that this role complements the statutory functions of the Department of Climate Change within the Ministry of Environment while enhancing Osun’s presence in international climate diplomacy.
The Government congratulated Obuaku-Igwe on her appointment and reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Osun’s transition toward a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous green economy.
