Osun govt accuses APC of planned protest ahead of presidential visit

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The Osun State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state have traded accusations over an alleged plan to stage a protest during the one-day visit of President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued in Osogbo on Friday, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, alleged that the Osun APC had concluded plans to sponsor a protest aimed at causing a breakdown of law and order and blackmailing the ACCORD/PDP administration in the state.
He described the alleged move as a diversionary tactic ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election and urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid being used to foment trouble.
Alimi said the planned protest was a scheme to discredit Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, insisting it would fail as the APC hosts the president. He also described some politicians expected to be inaugurated into the Osun APC fold as political paper tigers who would be rejected by voters.
However, the Osun APC, in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the allegation as baseless and unfounded.
Olabisi questioned the rationale behind staging a protest against the visit of the party’s national leader, stating that the president’s visit would be a source of joy for party members and supporters.
He accused the Adeleke-led government of peddling falsehoods and maintained that the APC had no reason to protest against President Tinubu’s visit.
“Those lies churned out by the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led government are too cheap,” he added.
