Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged residents to embrace pig farming and other agricultural practices to enhance food production, even at the family sustenance level.
Adeleke made the call during a one-day training and empowerment program for youths, women, and people living with disabilities on pig production and value addition, organized by the Osun State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Tola Faseru, the Governor emphasized that if 50% of Osun indigenes could sustain their families through farming, poverty levels in the state would significantly decrease.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Moruf Olawale, commended the Adeleke administration’s commitment to agriculture, highlighting the recent procurement of tractors to boost food and cash crop production.
In separate remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Olaniran Akanfe Atidade, and the Director of Livestock, Mr. Sunday Oguntoye, emphasized the profitability of pig farming and its potential to improve nutrition due to its high protein content.
A resource person at the training, Bishop Michael Adeboye, encouraged participants to invest in pig farming for its numerous benefits.
The event, attended by notable pig farmers, politicians, and youth, concluded with the distribution of free pig feed provided by the state government.
