Osun govt raises alarm over plans to trigger fresh crisis

The Osun State Government has raised the alarm over alleged plans by some stakeholders to trigger fresh crises across local government councils and motor parks in the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, warning that any attempt to ignite fresh rounds of crisis should be stopped immediately in the interest of public peace.

Alimi, who called for post-election reconciliation and peace-building across the state, noted that Osun needed peace for development and not violence in politics.

“The Osun election has been won and lost. Mr President and Mr Governor have engaged on a peaceful way forward. Any push towards violence represents an affront on the Presidency and the Nigerian Constitution,” he said.

The government also expressed concern over immediate post-election disruptions in some areas and urged residents to allow the restoration of peaceful coexistence and rule-based interactions among all sectors of society.

The commissioner called on all political actors to speak and act peacefully, emphasising that Osun should be in a period of healing and rebuilding and must not allow a relapse into the pre-election era of killings and violence.

Alimi extended condolences to victims of pre-election tensions and violence, calling for healing and urging residents to avoid a return to conflict in the post-election period.

He also called on security agencies to enforce a return to the rule of law by ensuring the release of political detainees and an end to what he described as perceived partisan policing, particularly in the management of local governments and motor parks.
