Osun govt suspends dealings with NYCN over leadership crisis

The Osun State Government has announced the suspension of all its dealings with the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) following a leadership crisis rocking the organisation.

The government, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, said the decision was taken in response to deepening internal feuds and controversies bordering on the management of allocated resources within the body.

Consequently, the state has ordered an investigation into the crisis and set up a three-man committee made up of unaffiliated nominees to probe the issues.

While the investigation is ongoing, the government resolved to implement a directive issued by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to all youth-sector stakeholders in late 2025.

The directive, according to the government, followed the withdrawal of NYCN’s certificate of registration by the Corporate Affairs Commission and the suspension of dealings with the national leadership over entrenched infighting, factionalisation and confrontations.

The state government noted that the state chapter is now enmeshed in a similar crisis, making it necessary to suspend further engagement with the organisation pending the outcome of the investigation.

The government also observed what it described as the politicisation of youth-sector issues by the opposition, assuring the public that measures already put in place would restore normalcy, transparency and accountability in the sector.
