Osun group raises alarm over alleged plot to conduct fresh Accord governorship primary

A socio-political group in Osun State, the Imole Accord Vanguard (IMAV), has raised concerns over an alleged plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to sponsor and stage another Accord Party governorship primary.
The group alleged that the exercise is being planned using hired party members to create confusion and undermine the will of the people of Osun State in support of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In a statement signed by the State Coordinator, Hezekiah Bamiji, on Saturday, the group said credible intelligence indicates that the APC has perfected plans to secure a court injunction to give the exercise a semblance of legality. They warned that such a dangerous path, if unchecked, poses a grave threat to Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
Bamiji noted that the purported exercise is illegal and flagrantly violates electoral procedure, as no notice has been given to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He emphasised that INEC had already discharged its constitutional duty by supervising the Accord governorship primaries held on Wednesday, 10 December 2025, and that any attempt to conduct another “primary” outside this framework amounts to an assault on the rule of law.
He called on the judiciary to remain vigilant and resist being dragged into what he described as the reckless politics of the APC.
The Vanguard also urged the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure that the Nigeria Police Force is not used as an instrument of political intimidation. Bamiji said, “The police must not lend themselves to any scheme designed to destabilise Osun State or truncate democratic processes through force or selective enforcement of the law.”
Bamiji further stated, “It is troubling that Governor Ademola Adeleke has become such a concern for the APC that its only imagined route back to power is to stop him from exercising his constitutional right to contest elections. We call on the good people of Osun State to remain vigilant, calm, and resolute in the face of these anti-democratic actions by forces that have openly declared war on their collective wellbeing and progress.”
