Osun guber election: PDP shuns Babayemi, issues Adeleke certificate of return

The Peoples Democratic Party has recognised Senator Ademola Adeleke as its governorship candiate for the July 16 governorship election in the state.

The party presented Adeleke with the Certificate of Return as the winner of the Osun Primary elections on Thursday.

The event was held at the National Executive Council Hall of the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

Western Post had earlier reported that Adeleke and Dotun Babayemi emerged winners of parallel governorship primaries held in Osogbo on Tuesday.

At the primary election held at the Osogbo township stadium, Bayelsa State Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Osun governorship primary, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo declared Adeleke the winner.

He said Adeleke scored 1887 votes to defeat his closet rival Sanya Omirin who cored four votes, while Dele Adeleke scored 1, Fatai Akinbade nil, Dotun Babayemi nil and Akin Ogunbiyi nil.

At the other primary election held at WOCDIF Centre, Osogbo Babayemi polled 1,781 to emerge the winner.

Returning officer, Adelani Ajanaku said Omirin got 16 votes; Ogunbiyi scored 23; Akinbade – 28, Dele Adeleke – 32.
